PRESENT BUT ABSENT
For the past 50 years,
my close friend and I
hit every garage sale
in and around our town
searching for treasures.
We filled our big houses
with unique collectibles.
Now his memory is gone.
All we do is listen to tunes.
He remembers many lyrics
and can sing along with me.
Today when I left him
standing in the doorway,
he was waving goodbye
as if for the last time.
As I walked away, I kept
turning to see him still waving
with tears in his eyes that merged
with the tears rolling down my face.
